I Call Him Friend

This painting was inspired by the tender truth that Jesus is not only Lord and Shepherd, but also Friend. In Scripture, He says, “I no longer call you servants… I have called you friends” (John 15:15). That intimacy and kindness is what I sought to capture here — not a distant figure, but a man whose eyes radiate warmth, compassion, and understanding.

As I painted, I imagined the humanity of Jesus: the friend who listens, who walks beside us, who shares in both our joys and sorrows. His gaze in this piece is meant to remind us that we are seen, known, and loved — not with judgment, but with a gentle strength that invites us closer.

This work is a reflection of relationship: of the peace found in His presence and the comfort of calling Him Friend.
